John Rae is winner of Gold, Silver and, Bronze awards in France’s PX3 photo contest. The PX3 contest is one of the largest and most prestigious contests in Europe with tens of thousands entries from 90 countries.  The Gold Medal winning series of photographs were produced in South Korea for Gener8 Maritime. The Silver Medal photos were produced on assignment for Health and Hospitals, the branch of the New York City Government that runs the public hospitals. The Bronze Medal went to a series of photographs produced on assignment for The Accion, a Boston based micro lender, in Myanmar that features a series of photographs depicting the org’s efforts to promote financial inclusion around the world.

June 2016

Communication Arts announced the winners of its 57th Annual photo contest and John Rae has been named a winner in the Annual Report category. CA photo contest attracts tens of thousands of entries from around the world and is one of the oldest and most prestigious contests in America. The winning series of photographs entitled “Building the Supertanker” was shot on assignment in South Korea for Gener8 Maritime.

February 2016

Accion’s Instagram account featuring John’s photographs has been named a finalist in the Shorty Awards in the Photography and Graphics category. Other finalists include National Geographic, GoPro, LG, and SYFY. Looks like Accion’s Instagram account is punching well above it’s weight.

November 2015

The International Photo Awards have announced the winners of their 2015 photo contest and John Rae has won third place in the Social Cause Section. The winning photographs were produced on location as part of an ongoing project for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria in Zambia, Laos, The Gambia, Paraguay,and Myanmar.

June 2015

The Bronze Medal went to a series of photographs produced on assignment for The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria in Honduras that features a series of photographs depicting the org’s efforts to fight the spread of TB in prisons.

The winning photograph is of TB outreach to a young mother and was shot on assignment in Honduras for The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria.

John Rae Photography Winner in AP 30 Photo Contest

American Photographer has announced the winners of the AP 30 Photo Contest . AP is one of the most prestigious Photo Contests in the US. The winning photograph was chosen from thousands of entries from over 80 countries. The photo was shot on assignment for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria in Cape Town’s infamous Pollsmoor Prison. Prisons are wonderful incubators of TB and AIDS and the GF supports efforts to fight the two pandemics in prisons around the world.

October 2014

ASMP (America’s leading trade organization for photographers) has announced the winners of its 2014 Photography Contest. John Rae has won an Honorable Mention for his photograph of Raphael, a member of an AIDS orphaned family in Zambia. The Image14 Contest Winners Exhibition will be held at the prestigious Chelsea 27 Gallery with an opening on October 23, 2014 at 6pm.

The two Silver Medals were produced on assignment for ACCION in Guatemala, and for a series of posters produced by the African Progress Pannel. The Bronze Medals went to a series of photographs produced on assignment for The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria in Zambia that features a child headed household struggling to hang on after the loss of their parents to AIDS. The second Bronze Medal went to a series of photographs produced on assignment for The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria in the notorious Pollsmoor Prison in Capetown, South Africa. The final Bronze Medal went to a portrait of Gift who is a member of the child headed household in Zambia.

John Rae is winner in PDN’s flagship photo contest. The winning series of photographs were produced in Lusaka, Zambia on assignment for The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria. The series features a child headed household that are struggling to hang on after the loss of their parents to AIDS.

The winning photographs were produced on location in the last 12 months for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria in The Philippines, Tajikistan, Cuba, and Malawi.

The International Color Awards announced the winners of its 2010 photo contest and John Rae has been named a winner in the People Section and a nominee in the People and Photojournalism Sections. The winning photograph was chosen from thousands of entries from over 90 countries. The photo was shot on assignment with Will Smith in Zanzibar for the NGO Malaria No More.

The winning photographs are from a series created for ACCION, a Boston based microlending NGO, which supports the distribution of loans for small businesses in Tanzania, Africa. The photographs were chosen from over 20,000 entries from around the world.

Paris: Px3 announces John Rae double winner in their 2010 photo contest. John Rae wins second place in the Annual Report and Portrait categories. The annual report category was taken by photographs produced in Cuba, Tajikistan, Georgia, and The Gambia for the Global Fund. The Portrait section was taken by a photograph produced on assignment in the Seti Valley in far western Nepal for the Global Fund. The contest attracts thousands of entries from 85 countries.

2008, October 27 Zurich: Credit Suisse is hosting “Helping Millions Help Themselves – The Art of Microfinance”, a photo exhibition by ACCION International from October 27 through November 13 in the Lichthof of the Bank’s headquarters building at Zurich’s Paradeplatz. The exhibit will bring to life the face of microfinance through the photographs of John Rae who has documented the programs in India, Nigeria, and Brazil of ACCION, one of the world’s leading microfinance organizations.

The exhibition, “10 Minutes:20 Lives,” celebrates through the photography of John Rae the work going on around the world that saves the lives of thousands of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria patients every day.
